Embassy or Under a Flag of Convenience
Embassy or Under a Flag of Convenience.
Part of the California-Pacific Triennial, ‘Building as Usual’ at the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, California, 2017. Curated by Cassandra Coblentz. A publication accompanies the exhibition.
The Embassy or Under a Flag of Convenience is the first in a four-part series of exhibitions consisting of architectural interventions modelled after aspects of international diplomacy, conventions of identity and power relations. This first iteration consists of a scaffolding tower clad in photographic wrap and attached to the exterior of the Orange County Museum of Art. The imagery is taken from a defunct rocket launch site in Churchill, Manitoba.
The Embassy project is supported in part by the Canada Council for the Arts New Chapters Grant. Future projects will include a collaboration with Verena Kaminiarz as part of Nuit Blanche, Toronto and projects with the Canadian Museum of Making and Simon Fraser University.
A publication will accompany the conclusion of the project.
